It includes a presentation of the theoretical trends represented in the cultural evolutionary trend, the structural functional trend (functionalist constructivism and neo-functionalism), Marxist theory (Marxist constructivism), and cultural materialism.

Cultural Adaptation in New Settelments
A Research in Cultural Anthropology in Al kharga oases
Adaptation is Known as an ongoing process by which the individual tries
to face the natural surrounding factors in order to strengthen himself to continue
life. By such process he gains the characteristics that make him more willing to
accommodate to the circumstances of the surrounding environment, and therefore
he changes behavior to make a more compatible relationship with the
environment. The study tries to identify the cultural Adaptation process in the
New Settelments in the villages to Al kharga oases, the study also tackles the
impact of developmental projects on the population, the compatibility of these
projects with cultural heritage. And the response of populations to the new
environmental conditions.
The dissertation contains eight chapters preceded by an introduction
and indexes, and followed by a conclusion , a list of references , and appendixes.
the introduction provides the definition of the concept of Adaptation and
biological adaptation, and how man can cope with communities through culture.
It also justifies the reasons behind the choice of the issue.
the first chapter of the study discusses the definition of the topic ( the cultural
adaptation), its strategy, the most important stages, cultural contact to express the
interaction between culturally different groups, acculturation, how to achieve the
cultural adaptation, and cultural shock.

the second chapter focuses on the previous studies that have direct or
indirect relevance to the subject of the research and how to make best use of these
studies in the current research.
the third Chapter studies the most important theoritical trends which are
represented in the cultural ecology trend and the Ethno ecology trend and
structural functional trend and cultural material trend.
the 4 Th Chapter highlights the characteristics of the research group and the
methodological procedures of the study through identifying the theoretical
framework, the methodology, the used tools, the villages in question, the research
objectives and the procedural concepts.
the fifth Chapter is devoted to study the architecture of the houses and the
adaptation in the New Settelments via identifying the housing environment, the
features of housing adaptation, and the changes that happened to the traditional
houses.
the sixth Chapter of this study tackles the environmental resources and the
economic adaptation via identifying environmental resources in the research
community, the agricultural activity, the manual crafts, and small projects.
the seventh Chapter discusses the environment and food and its impact upon
health and illness through identifying the food culture, environment, health,
illness.
the eigth Chapter handles marriage and the most important changes that
happened to it in the research community.
