Master Abstract

Abstract The present study deals with the city of Beni-Suef during the period from 1975 to 2007, a study in urban geography. This study consists of seven chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The introduction states the topic of research, the reasons for selecting the study and the aims of the study, the previous studies, the methodology of the study, the subject of the study and its sources, the difficulties which the student faced, and finally the plan of the study.

Quality of Urban Life in Giza City : A Study in Urban Geography

PHD Abstract

Abstract This study deals with the Quality of urban life in Giza City . This study consists of a preface, an introduction, six chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction includes topics of the study, rationale for the study, its aims, review of literature, methodology of the study and its sources, difficulties which faced the researcher, and plan of the study. The preface contains the concept of quality of life, the difference between quality of life and its types, the difference between variables and indicators, and the development of the administrative boundaries of Giza City. chapter I tackles the urban space and the land use in Giza city concerning its population and their growth, distribution, and structure. The chapter is concluded by a detailed analysis of the types of the land use of Giza City. chapter II discusses the quality of life in the city according to urban variables. It deals with kinds of residence, its ownership, its density, and services availability. Finally, it evaluates the quality of urban life according to urban variables. chapter III deals with the quality of urban life according to economic variables, through studying the rate of raw and modified economic activity in the city. Then we analyze the rate of young inhabitants and the rate of total and real dependency. The chapter also discusses the unemployment rate, the average portion for each person in the total general national production, and inhabitants' portion in owning private cars. The chapter ends with assessing levels of quality of urban life according to the economic variables. chapter IV deals with the quality of urban life according to social variables. It studies indicators of both healthy and educational conditions of Giza City. It also illustrates indicators of the marital status in it. The chapter is concluded by evaluating levels of the quality of urban life according to social variables. chapter V tackles the quality of life according to basic services. It studies indicators of educational services concerning the availability of providing primary , preparatory, and secondary education, whether general or technical. The chapter discusses indicators of healthy services in Giza City as well. This includes studying the degree to which doctors, nurses, beds, and pharmacies are provided to population. The chapter ends with evaluating levels of the quality of life according to basic services. chapter VI deals with the current levels of quality of urban life and its future needs. It also tackles the current level of the quality of life of Giza. This is followed by studying ways of improving the quality of life. The chapter ends with an assumed study of current and future needs of some services to population according to the plans of needed services until 2025. Finally, the conclusion elucidates results and suggestions of the study.
