Master Title
Hybridity in Postcolonial Criticism: A Study of Robert Young;s Contributions to Postcolonial Theory
Master Abstract
Abstract
Based on postmodern and postcolonial theories, this thesis explores hybridity as a major idea in Robert Young’s criticism. Hybridity is a prominent term in contemporary postcolonial studies that seek to reveal the fallaciousness which the colonizers use to keep on their hegemony over the colonized. It means the mingling of two forms in order to create a new one. Hybridity arises from the enforced domination of the colonizers upon the colonized people. It is a dominant idea in the writings of Robert JC Young, who has become a familiar name to those who endeavor into the field of Postcolonialism. As one of the most eminent postcolonial cultural critics whose writings have a prominence till the present time, Young contributes to the field of Postcolonialism, one of his contributions is through his notion of hybridity. So, drawing from postcolonial cultural theory, the purpose of this study is to scrutinize Young’s contributions to postcolonial criticism through his theory of hybridity.
