Research Abstract

Health Services in Beni suef Governorate 'A Geographical study' This thesis study examines an important sector of the service sectors in Beni-Suef Governorate, namely health services. It is divided into five chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The introduction defines the topic of research, identifies the rationale and objectives of the study, outlines the methods, and reviews the related literature. Chapter One explores the physical and human geography factors that determine the distribution of health services in the area under investigation. It is a study of such factors as location, area, climate, population, road network density, ease of access between the Governorate districts (marakz), and health expenditure. Chapter Two investigates the geographical distribution of both governmental and private health facilities in the area under study, including governmental hospitals, private hospitals, primary care units, ambulance points, private medical surgeries, private pharmacies, laboratory of medical tests and imaging, and specialized centers. Chapter Three describes the efficiency of health services in the Governorate, by examining a set of indicators related to health facilities in the Governorate, like proficiency of workers and degree of patients’ satisfaction. Chapter Four inspects the volume of patients attending governmental and private hospitals in the Governorate, in both outpatients and inpatients departments. It also examines the volume of patients according to medical specialties in the Governorate hospitals. then, The chapter, discusses performance measurement rates in both inpatient and outpatient departments, occupancy rate in hospitals, family turnover rate, average length of patient stay, average time of patient examination, and patients’ behavior. It concludes with a study of the general and economic concentrates of the treatment journey, including demographic characteristics of patients in terms of age, gender, place of residence, as well as educational, social, and occupational status. As regards treatment journey, the focus is on distance, means of transportation, time consumed to access these services, and the most difficulties of the journey. Chapter Five provides a spatial distribution of health service centers in the Governorate, attempting to detect their distribution patterns. It also executes an assessment of the current and future needs of health facilities and human cadres. then ,The chapter, discusses the most shortcomings of health services in the Governorate while suggesting remedies. The Conclusion offers the most significant findings of the present research in tandem with recommendations that are believed to have a role in overcoming shortcomings of health services sector in Beni-Suef Governorate, and, hence, might better health services in the Governorate.
