Unemployment in Beni Suef Governorate - A Geographical Study

Research Abstract

The present thesis sheds light on the problem of unemployment and its geographical and demographic dimensions, besides; it intends to identify the interrelationships between unemployment and the factors that influence it from one side, and its resulting effects from the other side. The study is divided into five chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The Introduction states the reasons behind conducting this research as well as its objectives, framework, and content. Chapter I investigates the changes the population of Beni Suef Governorate has undergone in the period starting from 1960 to 2006. It studies the population of the governorate in terms of its growth, geographical distribution, and demographic features. Chapter II tackles the development of the unemployment problem and its geographical distribution all over Beni Suef Governorate. Chapter III handles the demographic features of the unemployed; it examines their age, sex, education, and marital status. Chapter IV studies the factors that influence unemployment in the Governorate. These factors are classified into four main types: the demographic and economic factors as well as those factors related to education and labour force. Chapter V deals with the economic, demographic, social, psychological, and political impact of unemployment in Beni Suef. The Conclusion then comes to outline the results of the study, and gives some suggestions for facing the problem of unemployment in the Governorate.
