PHD Title
Environmental Changes in Western Coast of Suez Gulf A study In Environmental Geography
PHD Abstract
Abstract
The present dissertation traces the environmental change, focusing on the western coast of Suez Gulf as a case study. This region suffers from an evident environmental change that is negatively reflected on the ecosystem components. In fact, some of the general aspects of various land features have changed due to physical and human reasons. Some species living in the region have become extinct; some others could adapt the new environmental conditions. The general location conditions of the area played an essential part in developing this phenomenon. Being a promising area for economic investment, it provokes a noticeable environmental change in the ecosystem components.
Chapter one highlights the natural characteristics of the area. It presents the geological structures and formations including topographic characteristics represented in the Digital Elevation Model and the Digital Slope Model and its relief types. It shows also soil and climatic characteristics of the slope model paying attention to the coral reefs, chemical characteristics of water in Suez Gulf and the ecological biotic and abiotic components of the land. .
Chapter two sheds lights on the human characteristics of the present study. It deals with the study of population; their characteristics and their relationship to the environmental change in the area. It traced also major characteristics and land use in both Suez city and Ras Ghareb city. Besides, it presents the economic activities in the area represented in agriculture, hunting, industry, mining and tourism.
Chapter Three handles the physical environmental change in the area represented in the change of shore line. The change in Sabkh and the chemical characteristics of the Gulf water is also treated. It concludes with the change in coral reefs.
Chapter Four treats the human environmental changes in the area represented in the demographic changes and the environmental impacts in relation to and the urban changes and the environmental impacts. To sum up, it traced the environmental changes in the economic activities represented in the change in agricultural areas and touristic activities.
Chapter Five is an evaluation of the environmental impact and sustainable development. It shows the environmental impact of the change on the shore line. Afterwards, it handles the environmental pollution as one of the most severe problems resulting from the various human activities followed by an estimation of the environmental impact of these activities and proposing a plan for development as suggested by the researcher.
